Gettin’ Bossy

I recently had a wonderful opportunity to do a little photo shoot with one of my best friends, Chrys. She was looking to update her portfolio for an upcoming audition.

I have to admit that I was a little nervous about this shoot. Sure, I have plenty of experience photographing people in a portrait style, but I’ve never worked on a shoot meant for any portfolio beyond my own.

The day of the shoot, Chrys messaged me to tell me that I should be as bossy as I possibly can. She asked me not to worry about giving too much direction because she’s very good at following them. I had no idea, but this turned out to be a game changer for me!

Immediately upon starting, I launched into giving directions. Move your hair this way. Pull your right arm up away from your side. Bring your ears forward.

Instruction after instruction, Chrys followed each one perfectly. I felt like a true director!! I mean, I always give direction during a shoot, but I had never felt so confident giving commands and fine tuning her pose and the image to perfection. It was fantastic. It definitely helped to have such a beautiful subject with prior modeling experience!!

I’m still processing photos from the shoot, and plan to keep working on them as long as I can. It was just so fun, and made me realize I want to do more of these modeling shoots in the future. Thanks for the good time, Chrys!!
